Youth Ministries

Youth Ministries at First United Methodist Church

Our youth program has everything from Sunday School to Missions work, with small groups, retreats, fundraising activities and trips in between and is geared toward 6th – 12th-grade levels.

Sunday Morning Youth Class

Age group: Jr. & Sr. High
Youth Sunday School features crafts, games, and a short lesson that acts as a youth-focused follow-up to that morning’s sermon.

Sunday Evening Youth – Meal and Small Groups

Age group: Jr. & Sr. High
Youth Small Groups is a night where our students can spend time learning about God and Faith in a unique environment tailored to them. We kick off each evening with a meal and finish with a variety of interactive activities. Youth group meets the 3rd Sunday of the month at 5:30pm in the youth lounge.

All-Conference Jr. High and Sr. High Retreats

Age group: Jr. & Sr. High
A weekend full of worship that suits you. Worship through current music and messages that are relevant to youth, fellowship with other Christians your age – all in a safe environment. The junior high retreat is in the fall, and senior high retreat is in the spring.

Last summer, our Youth enjoyed Flamingo Flocking as a fundraiser. Our Youth hold a 5th Sunday Breakfast on the … wait for it … 5th Sunday of the month. This only happens a few times during the year. On this day the youth prepare, serve and clean up a breakfast offered to all following worship for a free-will donation.

Fun Activities and Trips

Age group: Jr. & Sr. High
Activities this year have included: Peoria Baseball Games; The Escape Room in Springfield; Six Flags; Paintball; Bowling; Frisbee; 9-Square; miniature golf and rock climbing. Still ahead this year are cookouts; Halloween party and a Christmas Party!

Our Youth Missions group is called the Service Squad, and every year our Youth participate in Youth-only Mission trip or join the church on an Intergenerational Mission trip. In the past, we have gone to Detroit, Michigan and Heifer International. The Service Squad also goes on several local mission trips a year.
