Today is my father’s birthday. Happy Birthday, dad! I sure am thankful for you. I remember a few years back when you had that heart attack. You were in the hospital off and on for months. In those days I never would have guessed that we would still have you with us to enjoy these 5 or 6 years later. It is all a gift, as you are. As Maya (my dog) and I were out walking the last 2 mornings, I noticed something. She noticed lots of things but since my nose is not as keen as hers I have no idea what they were. I don’t really think I want to know. The think I noticed, just a couple of days after the snow covered the ground, there are bulbs shooting up. The green shoots seem to be just a little taller each day. And I can see a few buds, where flowers will soon appear. Life is tenacious. You just can’t stop it. This life force is always breaking through with new possibilities. The newspaper may be full of bad news but the earth is full of new life.
